A few months ago a movie in the name of Rang De Basanti had hit the theatres in India. The film had garnered quite a publicity
in the Indian newspapers and television alike.A last day before it's release the television news channel NDTV had held
a live chat show with it's cast the director of the movie and the audience of some prominent New Delhi college
students.I saw the film because it had Aamir Khan in it who had been known for some very good hindi movies in the past.I
saw it on a pirated DVD to be honest brought by my family members for obvious reasons.
The film is one of the most pathetic film to ever come out and be succesful in Hindi cinema.I am using the words pathetic
and succesful in the same line because I am aware that there had been some very bad films in hindi cinema, bad in their story,
in their direction and equally in the way they had been publicised by their creators before it's release, and to a man's surprise
those films had become what they call 'hit' i.e. succesful.
Rang De Basanti sucks! because: (1) Directed by someone whose films have been unsucessful. (2)
The producers exploited the 'star power' of one of their lead actors i.e. Aamir Khan both before and after the movie's release.(3)
The story, the story, the story.
When I saw the movie I thought to myself what does the director really want to convey to us, he doesn't really want to
convey the message that one shouldn't be carefree and restless when one is youth and should rather work for his country, because
if he was then he would make 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander'.The director wasn't trying to convey that either that the power is in
one's hand and one can use and it and make one's point despite the opposition of society, the director should have
made 'Gandhi' then.Lastly the director was convinced that he couldn't convey the message of patriotism otherwise he would
have made 'Bhagat Singh'.I am certain the director wanted to do the following by making this movie of his which
is just as rotten and as bad as the director's earlier films:-
Show politics and politicians as a means of inflicting self justifying violence, potray the youth as the leader of the
country who is devoid of any responsibilities of life and glorify the negative aspects of India like corruption,
population and pollution all of which the producers intend to make money of by exploiting the emotions of their
respective audiences through a terrible film called Rang De Basanti.
